A Brief & Tiresome History
the year was 1850
and there was a convention for women
because we didn’t have rights
and we had to organize
so we snuck down side streets and alleyways
to gather and meet and then
in 1869
the NWSA was created
with an aim to amend the constitution
which did not consider women
or minorities valid citizens and then
in 1872
Susan B. Anthony was arrested for voting
and she never paid the fine
but women still did not have rights
and in 1878
congress failed to pass a bill
that would grant women the right to vote and
then, 26 years later, the bill failed again
that was 1914 and three years later the world went to war
and women held this country on their backs
worked in factories and farms
in hospitals and care homes
and America learned it is nothing without women
